Today we’re super excited to introduce a young fashion blogger we met through our friend Annette of the VersaStyle. Meet Jamie of Beauty and Le Chic. She’s a master of thrift and quite talented as a seamstress, though she’s been spending most of her time buried in the books these days. I also hear that she might be getting into a little extreme couponing on the side. As you can see it’s not hard to gloat over our new friend but we’ll let her do the talking for now.
1. Where did your love for fashion start and was there a specific person who was that inspired you?
I fell in love with fashion at a very young age as I watched my mother sew clothes for my five sisters and me. My mom is a huge inspiration to me. As a child, I would always tag along with my parents each time they went to a flea market and I’d watch as she examined the quality of the fabrics that would soon be crafted into a sweet summer dress, and doing so made me yearn for fashion. I started making my own clothes in grade school and became a streamstress at age 14.
2. As a seamstress what are you favorite and least favorite types of clothing to make? Do you have a specific piece you a most proud of creating?
Currently my sewing projects have been pushed aside due to studies but I work on small décor projects from time to time. My most favorite type of clothing to make is dresses and skirts while my least favorite would be pants. Pants are hard to create perfectly and I’m not too confident to step out in a pair of my own just yet. On the contrary, my most prized article is a pair of bell-bottom pants I made in the 6th grade for school.
3. How has your blog and personal style evolved since your first started writing?
I first started my blog as a distraction to an unfortunate event in my life. And since one thing most girls have in common is fashion, I’ve made such good friends through blogging over the past year. I’ve started to make blogging (about my personal style) more of a priority than a hobby because I’ve connected with so many good people. My personal style is always evolving. I feel that as I grow up, so do my clothes. Through blogging, I’ve learned how to edit my looks and as cliché as it may sound, less is really more!
4. Tattoos? I noticed you have one. What is it and do you have others?
I have a heart on my right ring finger, a skull on each forearm, and two ak-47s on my right arm. I know, I sound like a bad ass but I’m pretty dorky! And unfortunately I don’t have any cool stories behind my tattoos. I was an impulsive teenager and I got those tattoos when I was 18. I’ve been thinking of lasering some of them off actually.
5. Of course I must ask, what does your personal style say about you?
Looking good does not have to cost much. I don’t follow designers or high fashion as much but what girl doesn’t want to look good and be in trend? I try to wear at least one thrifted item in my outfit posts and it makes me feel good when I get messages about someone being inspired to thrift because of me. Not only is it budget friendly, but it’s also eco-friendly!
BONUS- If you could live anywhere in the world for the next year where would you move and why?
Of course, Paris! The culture.. the food.. the fashion.. need I say more?
Thank you to Jamie for taking the time to give us a small glimpse of the fashion muse behind Beauty and Le Chic. Be sure to check out her StyleSays profile to see what she’s shopping for currently.
